my yoga story
I took to my first yoga class when I was 13 years old. I was a dancer growing up, and yoga classes felt similar to dance classes. It was a fun and familiar way for me to exercise. It wasn’t until a few years later that I started to realize that yoga went way deeper than just the physical. My interest in the philosophy and history of yoga grew at around 18 when I left for college, and I continued to take yoga classes though my school and at local studios in Burlington, VT.
After graduating from the University of Vermont, I spent 7 months living and working at Metta Earth Institute, a farm and yoga retreat center in the mountains of Vermont. There, I completed my first 200 hour training - Ecology of Yoga. I spent the next 5 months traveling through southern India with my best friend volunteering on farms and immersing ourselves in the many different cultures in Southern India. We spent a month completing a 200 hour Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training in Mysore through Mysore Mandala Yoga Shala. Both trainings presented me with unique perspectives on the 8 limbs of yoga and shaped my personal practice.
I am not actively teaching anywhere at the moment, but if you are interested in private classes, either virtual or in person, please email me: madeleine@madeleinelyman.com
